Welcome to the - WORLD of Visualizations

About DataViz

Originally inspired and developed by Benjamin Kenwright. A free open access resource for creating better visualizations.

DataViz is a resource for exploring how we can make my data visualisation more interesting, dynamic, relevant and well received by diverse audiences. Anyone who has developed visualisations – whether you're a newcomer or a seasoned analyst – these questions should be at the top of your mind, because you want to make your visualizations great. If your visualizations are done well, they will communicate a story - a story that engages, inspires and informs.

Visualizations can also shine a light on hidden information and details that you wouldn't uncover in a spreadsheet, bar chart or pie graph.

Imagination Has No Limits. While developers, artisits and creative minds know this, they are often limited by their knowledge and tools they use. You want to use resources that will allow you more freedom and to provide a wider point of view. You want to create visualization that can actually make a difference (that can change a persons perspective) - which is not easy!

Interactivity can make the difference between a horribly confusing visualisation and an all-star analysis. You need to guide the story and encourage exploration. When building in interactivity, make sure viewers know that they can engage with it – perhaps offering subtle instructions for them.
Place the most important view at the top, or in the upper-left corner. Your eye is usually drawn to that area first. Limit the number of views in your visualisation to three or four. If you add too many, the big picture gets lost in the details.
If you have multiple filters, try grouping them together. A light border around them gives a subtle visual cue that they have shared features.

Amazing visualizations do more than communicate information
